Here is how my day has gone:
10:00 am meeting I find out that DOGE is setting up a permanent office within NASA and will be approving all hiring and procurement decisions. While the NASA/NOAA collaborations are potentially safe due to the DOD uses, the NASA/USGS collaborations are likely on the chopping block because the current administration just doesn’t see any value in Earth science and observations.
11:30 am I reach a contracting officer that has knowledge of the procurement I have been working on for the last 2 years. The RFP was supposed to come out on December 6, 2024, and there have been no updates on status or any communication. The CO laughed and said that if it had come out in December, it would have been cancelled. They have been desperately working through changes, trying to keep up with the EOs. No word when the RFP will release.
12:30 pm, receive a read-out from our board of directors meeting. We need to expand our BD pipeline and engage with our customers more. I mean, our customers are NASA, NOAA, and DOI. I don’t know if we will have a pipeline or customers left in 30 days, but sure. Even after RTO, there were 4 cars in the parking lot of a major data center yesterday. Prior to COVID, this location offered hybrid work to government staff and remote work to contrators because they could only accommodate 1400 staff on site at once.
All of this before lunch. I am already exhausted. It is Wednesday, and Monday was a holiday.
I need cat photos and whiskey.
